SHORT ITINERARY

Gather in Hanoi (Vietnam), visit the Red River Delta (in Ninh Binh province, south of Hanoi), catch overnight train to Hue (Vietnam’s Imperial City), travel to the ancient Port of Hoi An, a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), cross border to Cambodia. Arrive Phnom Penh (Cambodia’s capital city), travel to Siem Reap (close to Angkor Wat), sunrise at Angkor Wat and visiting the Temples of Angkor Wat - built to represent the cosmic world where everything is in perfect balance, symmetry and composition. Return to Phnom Penh. (18 days/17 nights)

PRACTICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE TRIP  

An unforgettable adventure through two of the most colourful yet contrasting cultures in South East Asia. Starting off in Vietnam’s bustling capital city, Hanoi. Cruise through the stunning karst scenery and magnificent views of Hang Mua (Mua caves) in Ninh Binh province. Next, stepping back in time to visit the country’s last Emperor and the Imperial city of Hue, soaking up the old-worldly charms of Hoi An with colourful markets, exceptional food and tailors - and being amazed by the endless energy and stunning roof top views of Ho Chi Minh City (the old Saigon) where we also visit the nearby fertile Mekong Delta. In Cambodia, discover the country’s fascinating history and and deep cultural experiences in Phnom Penh, before continuing our journey to the awe-inspiring ancient temples of Angkor Wat. A journey that draws you away from the crowds and into the heart of this captivating region and its equally enchanting people. An unforgettable experience of South East Asia that is both enriching and illuminating to the Spirit.

Morning: free time to rest after the long previous day excursion. 

Afternoon: Explore Ha Noi on our own! sample some delicious Vietnamese food, do some shopping in bustling markets etc. Or you ca visit the Hoa Lo Prison Museum with its fascinating French colonial and USA history.

**EXCURSION: HOI AN ECO COOKING CLASS - an experience not to be missed! we visit the markets to collect fresh produce and then learn how to cook it into the most delicious meal. Anyone can participate, you don’t have to be a good cook!

Free day to enjoy the many pleasures of Hoi An for yourself. Choose your own activity: such as having your own dress or other clothing made (Hoi An is famous for its incredible fabrics and dress making),  learn to make a colourful latern, do a boat ride excursion, visit markets etc.

IMPORTANT NOTES: 

1. At times some of the places we stay may not have continuous hot water. Most travellers do not find this a problem and are keen to cool down from the heat with a refreshing cold shower.
2. This trip includes two domestic flights. Checked luggage allowance is a maximum of 20 kilograms, plus up to 7 kilograms carry on luggage. Any excess luggage charges will need to be paid directly to the airline at check-in.
3. The optional activities mentioned in the itinerary are suggestions that you may like to explore in addition to the tour activities. Everyone has different energy/interests levels and so these are options that you may like to pursue on your own.
4. In order to explore the many extraordinary parts of Vietnamese and Cambodia, this adventure involves substantial overland travel, giving the opportunity to see a huge amount of the fascinating landscapes of Vietnam and Cambodia. The itinerary has been structured to provide rest periods in between and should be accessible to most people. However, if on the longer journeys between cities you prefer to fly instead, you are welcome to book your own flight. 
5. The weather may be hotter and more humid than what you are used to. Always consider suitability to your own health.

When and where?

The journey starts in Hanoi and ends in Phnom Penh where you will be able to catch your international flight back home.

Note: Many participants arrive a day or two earlier to settle in and some also decide to stay on for a few days afterwards to relax and see more. Please ask if you require any assistance with accommodation etc before or after the trip.

After booking and before we travel, you will be sent detailed information as to what to bring along by way of clothing, other packing items, useful traveling suggestions, money considerations as well as general information and the places we visit.

POST SCRIPT

SOME EXPERIENCES ON SACRED EARTH & STORM SCHOOL PILGRIMAGES

We stood at the point (at Angkor Wat) that is considered to be the centre of the world. You will see on the cell phone a 0 in the phone’s compass. Below it is a huge crystal that was used in our ceremonies. When I stood there, I experienced a very familiar state of consciousness that is created in a medicine wheel when all of the directions are gathered and placed in the heart. We can all stand in the centre of the universe when we are in perfect balance within ourselves and the world.

For most of our ceremonies which we do very quietly, the area around us often clears of people and we are left by ourselves. For this ceremony, it was interesting that people gathered around us and seemed to want to be a part of what we we were doing. At the end, ElIzabeth, our guide for this trip, asked an American man who was standing nearby if he would pick up the crystal, which he did. He suddenly looked astonished, and said, “ I can feel an electric current running through my body! What is that?” I think he was a bit shocked. Such as the magic of a spiritual pilgrimage. Travel forever changes us. The stories we hear, the sites we visit and the people all play a role in our own evolution. 

As I ventured to Vietnam and Cambodia I had no expectations, no agendas to find. And this has been how I have learned to explore. For it opens me, us, to the unimaginable and deep magic. 

These lands rocked me and yet held me close. 

Our heart strings can be pulled when we walk a path of history, often not even being able to fathom what another has experienced. And so we look to the present. How has deep turmoil been moved beyond or anchored?  How are countries and people with deep pain navigating life forward?

What was so clear to me was the heart. Each soul I encountered had love in their hearts and joy in their eyes. So gracious, giving, connecting. 

It is not that the past is forgotten but there is a courage and strength of forgiveness that shines through their hearts. 

And so I offer you this montage of a few of the beautiful, amazing souls that teach us how to forgive with compassion and live in love not allowing victimisation to weigh them down.
